The public debt was reduced in 2016 to 71%, from 72.7% that it was in
2015. This is the first time it goes down for the past five years.
Erjon Luci, from the Ministry of Finances, said that for economies like Albania it needs to go even under 60%, in order to avoid risks.
“The first risk is failing to collect enough money for payments, a scenario that has happened in the past, which forces you to not be able to take enough loans for covering bills”, Luci added.
The Parliament voted in favor of the proposition brought by the Ministry of Finances to reduce the public debt every year, until it reaches 45%.
