The Mayor of Durres, Vangjush Dako, together with a group of Parliament
Members even from the Democratic Party, announced that they are against
the import of Syria’s chemical weapons in Albania. In a meeting with the
Durres Forum, Dako declared that they must wait first for the
government’s decision, since any rushed declaration would be wrong.

“I agree with the citizens’ protest for preventing the chemical weapons from coming to Albania. On the other hand, it is a great responsibility of Albania as a NATO member. We should also be part of the alliance, and as such, we have obligations. I also want to announce to the public opinion that no decision has been taken, and this is an open matter of discussion. It will be the government that will chose the best for their citizens and the next generations”, Dako declared.

The right center Parliament Members, sitting on the same table with Dako, declared that they were against the chemical weapons.

Parliament Member Oerd Bylykbashi reminded to the government the Constitutional obligation for securing the safety of their people.

Yesterday, Durres citizens protested against the dismantling of the chemical weapons in Albania, and most of the protesters were young people.

Another protest was organized in Elbasan, in which the youth was organized through the Social network, Facebook. They declared that no chemical weapons should be brought to the Mjekes plant of Elbasan, since their city already suffers from the heavy industry pollution.
