The Promise of the Albanian Ministers at the Macedonian government that
they will not allow the construction of the Lukova hydropower plant has
not been enough for the Dibra citizens.
Due to the contradictory declarations coming from the Macedonian and Albanian officials about this project, the Dibra citizens want the government to come out with a common position and a clear decision about the hydropower plant.
“The Albanian Ministers are not clear, because the government of Macedonia declared a few days ago that the project will be realized. The Albanian Ministers at the Gruevski government need to come clear, so that we can understand the final decision of the government”, declared Muhamet Kaba, former head of the Dibra commune.
“We don’t want just declarations, but concrete documents for giving an end to this document once and for all”, declared Dritan Lleshi, initiator of the petition.
The Head of the Communal Council in Diber, Bashkim Mashkulli, declared that the construction works have started months ago with the first tubes that will send the water to the Mavrova lake, where three hydropower plants will be built.
Besides the ecological damages, the Dibra citizens say that there could other consequences for the residents, with the Dibra lake turning into a swamp and becoming a source of infections.
The citizens warn for massive protests in all cities of Macedonia, if the government doesn’t stop the project.
