Protest for oil price. Cars turned off in traffic for five minuets

The Democratic Party engaged citizens today in a protest against high
taxes, which, according to them, stop the oil price from dropping with
the same level as in other European countries.

The Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, walked with the former Prime Minister and former Democratic Party leader, sali Berisha, near the former Hotel Dajti.

This is a new form of protest in Albania, but, according to the Democrats, Basha and Berisha have found support from all citizens around the country.

“I want to thank all Albanians who were part of this protest. I think that this was a historic day. This is the day of a civil protest that is not made for the power of anyone, but for civil rights and for a honest, transparent and responsible government”, Basha declared.

Vehicles have stopped for five minutes around Tirana. Some of them moved as soon as the green light was on. For the democrats, it is important that citizens are aware that the government must serve to them, rather than stealing them.

“This was the first day of the Albanian spring of protests, who refuse to be ignored and treated as slaves by a government that only thinks of how to fill their pockets and its budget with the money of the Albanian tax payers, but taking even their last saving”, Basha underlined.

It is difficult to know the effect of the protest through this method, but the Democratic Party will not stop protests with the motto “the government must give up from high taxes or they should leave”.

“The budget is not untouchable. The government is not untouchable. Our appeal is for the government to reflect about the request of the Albanian citizens regarding the circulation tax. The energy price should return where it was, and they must fulfill the electoral promise for reducing the energy price with 16%, as they promised during the campaign. Our protests will continue, not only for changing the budget, but until the government is changed”, Basha declared.
