Protest against HPP in Zerqan

For the fourth consequent time, residents of Valikardha, Zerqan, Sopot
and Strikcan villages in the Zerqan commune are protesting against the
construction of a hydropower plant in Valikardha.
The cause of this protest is the deviation of the Liqeni I Zi waters, which has been declared a National Park. According to the residents, this damages not only the tourist values of this area, but leaves without irrigation water more than 2000 hectares of land and removes drinking water from three villages: Zerqan, Valikardha and Sopot.
Residents accuse the head of commune of damaging the interests of residents for the construction of this HPP.
They say that protest will escalate if their request will not be taken in consideration. A few days ago they met with a representative of the Ministry of Environment, who heard the claims of the residents.
