Dozens of young people from the Student Council in Korce protested
against the chance of dismantling the chemical weapons in Albania.

The young protesters gathered in front of the “Fan Noli” University and asked the government to not bring the chemical weapons to Albania.

“The Student Council is organizing this civil protest, with the support of the civil society, against the dismantling of the chemical weapons and their import from Syria to Albania. We think that those chemical weapons are dangerous. We want to raise awareness among the public opinion that these weapons are dangerous for Albania and we should not accept them, let alone dismantling them here”, one of the protest organizers declared.

The Student Council members were joined by the “Skenderbeu” football club fans, who appealed to say “no” to the chemical weapons in Albania.

The civil society and the Student Council have started gathering signatures for a referendum regarding this issue. The lists signed by citizens will be sent to the civil society leaders in Tirana.

A similar protest was held in Lushnje. The civil society representatives and different organizations gathered in the city center to express their opposition to the destruction of chemical weapons in Albania.

“We need to say ‘no’ once and for all to the import of chemical weapons. A single case of incident during the transportation would have catastrophic consequences”, the protest organizers declared.
