Prosecutors don’t apply for Special anti-corruption unit, fail to get their relatives’ consent

The High Council of the Prosecution (HCP) has postponed the deadline for the Special Prosecution Against Corruption (SPAC) to February 21st, due to the low number of candidates.

The initial deadline was February 7th, but only 14 prosecutors had applied for the 15 positions that had to be fulfilled in the SPAC structure.

On January 7th, the HCP decided to give prosecutors one month of time for new applications, but it gave no results.

Prosecutors aren’t able to apply because their relatives and family members refuse to sign a declaration in which they agree to be scrutinized and observed about their finances.
