Prosecutor General accused US Ambassador to Tirana

The Albanian Prosecutor General is one of the 30 judges and prosecutors
whose visas were revoked by the US Embassy, and this seems to have
opened the Pandora Box.

“The US Ambassador refused a visa for the Prosecutor General’s wife, who was going to the USA for medical reasons. This is one of the blackmails he has used against the Prosecution General, the real Soros type”, said Fjorida Ballauri, Chief of the Prosecution General Staff.

The Prosecution accused the US Ambassador of revoking visa for personal gains. Llalla made these accusations through a letter to President. The core of the conflict, according to the Prosecution, was the Justice Reform.

“Mr.Lu has tried to encourage the justice reform in Albania, and he has pressured the Prosecution General to openly favor it, even when the legal projects were against the constitution, as resulted by the Venice Commission”, Ballauri declared.

She added that Ambassador Lu has made it clear to the Prosecutor General that if he would not defend the legal amendments publicly, there would be personal and institutional consequences. But, the conflict between the US Embassy and the Prosecution General is not only the justice reform.

“The most flagrant case was documented and made public on the media. It is about a direct intervention of the US Ambassador for the investigation of Bankers Petroleum. This company was accused by the media and local residents of having caused irreparable damage to their health. The US Ambassador had asked for the investigation to stop, or there would be direct consequences to the Prosecutor General”, the official said.

Top Channel asked the Prosecution General more information about the Bankers case, but they didn’t confirm if the investigations are closed or still undergoing.

The accusations of the Prosecutor General against the US Diplomat were about politics, more specifically about the decriminalization process. This process is led by Rovena Gashi, whose US visa was revoked without any explanation, one day before the lottery of the Justice Appointments Council.

“The Prosecutor was urgently asked for a meeting at the US Embassy, one day after the lottery. This is a maneuver not diplomatic at all, but only to pressure him and the Prosecution, only to serve to specific political segments who want to take control of Justice institutions”, Ballauri said.

Warning that there will be a political storm due to the decriminalization law, the Prosecution General accused the Ambassador of also blackmailing politicians.

“This structure is functional and it will affect other Parliament Members, mainly people who have been publicly and privately blackmailed by the US Ambassador in Tirana, just to secure enough parliamentary votes to pass the draft supported by him for the justice reform. The phone messages sent by this embassy were made public even for the media”, Ballauri said.

Prosecutor General Lllalla has warned at least twice that there are cases that will shock the political class in Albania, but nothing has happened so far. This time, the Prosecutor is also accusing the US Ambassador.
“The US Embassy has revoked the visa of several other high-level officials of the Prosecution, who are investigating people in power and who are known as collaborators of the US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu. These people who have his support are part of some political segments which may also be tied to the organized crime world, who are trying to paralyze the Prosecution”, the official said.
