Prosecution’s claim: life in prison for Arben Frroku

The Prosecution of Serious Crimes requested life in prison for Arben
Frroku, for the murder of the Chief of Police, Dritan Lamaj, plus five
years for illegal arm possession.

The Prosecution said that Dritan Lamaj was killed because of his duty as Chief of Police in Tirana Precinct 6. The conflicts between Frroku and Lamaj, according to the prosecution, have started in 2012.

The Prosecution has based its accusation on the testimony of Arben Ndoka, the witness who is now under protection, and who says that he saw Frroku leave the scene after the crime.

“I know Arben Frroku, because in 2009 I was part of the PKD campaign and I supported him. This is why I knew his face. I was out with my wife and I saw a car that crashed against a wall. I saw Frroku with the mask that he had removed from the face and two other people. I took their license plates and called the police”.

To prove his testimony, the Prosecutors have checked the phone records, and the phone call to the police matches, together with the license plantes of the cars.

The Prosecutors also brought three other witness declarations that confirm the same mechanism followed for the murder of Dritan Lamaj, and the testimonies of two former high-rank police officials, to show what he confessed and how was offered the protection of the key witness.

However, the lawyers expressed their discontent with the witness: “This is simply paid for this. The Court has made a very severe procedural violation that continues with the fake identity. His true identity was made public”, declared Genc Gjokutaj, lawyer of Arben Frroku. The person who has been considered as the “key witness” of the process has been transferred to an EU country for security reasons.
