“…to find Ilir Xhakja guilty for the murder of Adem Tahiraj, a police
officer. Based on article 79.c of the Criminal Code, to sentence him to
life in prison”, this was the final position held by the Prosecution for
the murder of Chief of Police Adem Tahiraj.
The trial lasted seven months, but two other sessions are needed until the Court of Serious Crimes gives the verdict for the defendant. The Prosecution read its arguments and showed the dynamics of the tragedy that took place in September 2012, when the defendant did not allow the Chief of Police to check the vehicle of his nephew and then shot him.
Prosecutor Eugen Becaj asked the Court life in prison for Ilir Xhakja for murder, and 10 years for the murder attempt of Lena Ndoka; and 1 year in prison for resisting to the police, and six years for illegal arms possession.
The Prosecutor declared that Xhakja was highly dangerous not only because he had a criminal history, but because he has shot and killed with premeditation a high representative of the law enforcement.
For the Prosecution, Xhakja has committed a series of crimes that not only affected the life a police official, but also blocked the police from doing its duty and put in risk the citizens’ life.
