A new project for integrating transportation networks between Balkan and the EU is expected to bring funds even in Albania.

The progressive integration of transportation networks between the EU and six Western Balkan countries will be done through the Transportation Community, an institution that will coordinate regional projects and the implementation of the European legislation for all types of transportations: railways, sea transportation, air and road.

The headquarters will be in Belgrade and Albania signed the treaty at the Western Balkan summit in Trieste. The treaty includes funding from donators and International Financial Institutions.

“There are three main projects which include Albania as well, the Adriatic-Ionnian project, Road 7, which connects Prishtina with the Durres Port, and Corridor 8”, said Thimio Plaku from the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and energy.

The only project Albania has taken EU funds for is the rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durres highway. The cost is 90 million EUR, part of which was received as a donation.
