The Tirana-Durres highway will be widened and the allowed speed might be increased to 140 km/h.
An Italian company hired by the government has sent a preliminary report to the Road Authority for the highway that connects two of the biggest cities of our country.
The plan is to change the highway to three lanes on each side, from two, and widen the current lanes from 3.5 meters to 3.75 meters.
Authorities say the new road will finally resolve the issue of overpasses, underpasses and connection of businesses with the highway.
The cost mounts up to 150 million EUR, which would turn it into a A Category highway.
The need for enlarging this highway came due to the high flux of vehicles in this road, which mounts at 30.000 a day. The enlarged project will have a capacity of 67.000 vehicles a day.
The Albanian government doesn’t have a decision yet about when will they start to invest. The study is the first part of the intervention plan.
