Progress for decriminalization

The word progress in these two years had become exotic for the Albanian
politics, when it was about compromise between the government and the
opposition.

But the opposition is now describing with this word the talks for a joint draft for the decriminalization issue.

After two weeks of discussions far from public attention, Oerd Bylykbashi and Ermonela Felaj have taken concrete steps towards compromise.

“The majority withdrew from the fingerprint request. The only way to identify the persons with multiple identities who have committed crimes. During this period there has been progress, but the most important things have not been resolved yet”, Bylylkbashi said.

What are these important things that hamper the final agreement? Oerd Bylykbashi mentions two of them.

“What remains to be resolved is the drug test and the people who have an open process with the justice”, he says.

Hoping that the majority will be convinced to do the drug test as part of the law for decriminalization, Oerd Bylykbashi found it difficult to give a final answer when he was asked if the opposition is ready to withdraw from that point.

“We cannot say this. We will keep working, because it is in the public’s interest for officials to have integrity and dignity. The majority has opposed them so far”, Bylykbashi declared.
