Professors against the new Higher Education Law

“We cannot accept that public money go to public projects while diplomas are losing their values. Those diplomas have a real value in the market that keeps getting lower, because of the intellectual unemployment, this huge investment made by Albanian families, and that can be done by the budget of the Republic of Albania, it would be bad if it went for diploma factories that have no value in the market”, says prof.Artan Fuga.

“We need to have two lines. Public universities, completely public, and private universities completely private. Passing from one status to another is premature and would create problems in Albania. Honest competition in Albania is a source of scientific developments in Albania”, says prof. Zyhdi Dervishi.

“Public finances must go only to public operators. We are looking attentively if there is a clause of this law that affects this declaration. Certainly, we will react by standing to the political declaration and the position of the majority for the public to go only to public institutions”, Mrs.Hafizi declared.

Prof. Mark Marku declared that this draft law is helping just a specified group.

“There is no university autonomy yet. It was one of the basic remarks that the European Specialists said: “This law is not for universities. The figure of the university does not exist with the law. There is the figure of the Minister, of Directors of Agencies, of the Prime Minister. But this law is not for for universities. It is a regulator of the state for the university”, Mark Marku declared.

The Senate of the University and the Forum for Academic Freedom wants to review some articles of the draft law, and they have opposed article 12 completely, saying it puts the public university in a dangerous and unknown path.
