CEZ privatization case reopened, Shkelzen Berisha summoned by Prosecution

Shkelzen Berisha, son of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, was called by the Prosecution this Thursday to give information about the privatization of the Electricity Transmission Operator.

The summoning of Shkelzen Berisha was ordered by the Tirana Court, which refused to close the case and forced the Prosecution to reopen the investigation.

The Electricity Operator was privatized in 2009 by a Czech Company when Sali Berisha was Prime Minister. A few years later, the Socialist Party accused them of causing a 414 million EUR damage.

Shkelzen and Sali Berisha appeared in front of the Parliamentary Commission established to investigate the case, but refused to testify in front of Socialist MP Taulant Balla, claiming that he had a conflict of interest with them since the Court had fined Balla for slander against Berisha.

Top Channel asked Shkelzen Berisha to comment the situation, but he refused. He wrote on Facebook later that his wealth and revenues have nothing to do with that privatization.
