The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, appeals all Albanians to use
their voting rights as the most precious asset in the democratic society
that we have been building for the past years.
“It is an undeniable fact that the electoral processes in Albania since 1992 have promoted the democratic development in our country. Free vote has been the locomotive of these developments. Free elections, despite the many problems, have consolidated the accountability standard from electors and have raised awareness among citizens for the extraordinary value of the vote. We must continue this success story by aiming the most advanced European standards in these elections”, the President says.
The President appealed the citizens to be part of these elections and to exert their right of free vote to address their concerns and improve their lives, since this is the duty of every responsible citizen. Nishani trusts that the Albanian people will find the force and courage to contribute to democracy.
The President congratulated the candidates for promoting the best values of their communities with their ambitious programs, and appealed political leaders to give positive messages to voters. He reminded all parties to reflect, and the government of its added responsibility for guaranteeing normal elections and impartiality through the police, in this test for Albania’s European integration path that comes after receiving the EU candidate status.
As for the reports and concerns raised by Parliament Members, the President addressed all public administration employees, police officers, independent institutions and civil society to respect the laws for a better electoral process. He reminds them of how essential their role is, which will also be constantly monitored by the international observers.
“As President of Albania, on behalf of all fellow Albanians, I express our deep gratitude to the international partners for their precious contribution in the local elections 2015, especially the USA, the ambassador of this great friendly country, Mr.Donald Lu, who is orienting not only the Albanian politics with his stances, but also the voters, helping them to stop the vote purchase phenomenon and to stop voting candidates who have an indecent past, with criminal records. I want to invite all diplomatic sees in Albania to say their word about these phenomena that do not represent our European heritage”, Nishani declared.
