The majority has rejected the two candidates of the Albanian President
for the Supreme Court, Sokol Ngresi and Elona Stavri, bringing to five
the number of Presidential decrees that were rejected by the Parliament.
The Socialist representative, Blendi Klosi, declared that the Commission of Laws voted against because the President violated the rules by not consulting the Parliament first.
Spartak Braho, member of the Socialist Movement for Integration, an ally of the majority, was against this decision from the government. He said that he regrets that the majority is rejecting candidates with professional integrity.
The Chairman of the Commission, Fatmir Xhafaj, answered to Braho by saying that the President has not respected the law criteria. However, Xhafaj agrees that a solution needs to be found. For this reason he invited the “Euralius” representatives who assist the judiciary in Albania.
However, the President’s decrees were rejected and only for Sokol Ngresi’s vote it wasn’t unified, because Spartak Braho voted against.
The majority voted unanimously for appointing Albana Shtylla and Vangjel Kosta as the newest members of the High Council of Justice. When asked about the accusation launched by the Democratic Party, that he had served as judge during the communist era, Kosta said that he was a very young judge at that time and no trial was trusted to him.
