Almost 24 hours ago, the parliamentary group leaders of the ruling
coalition, the Socialist Party and the Socialist Movement for
Integration, asked the President to recognize the new laws about
appointing the new Supreme Court judges. The President answered today
that he will respect the old laws.
“No new law has entered in effect, but we have an old law that is still in effect. As President, I have the obligation to respect the time foreseen by the law and the Constitution. I note a lack of will from the majority to implement the Constitutional Court laws. I will respect the constitutional right until the lawmakers decide to change the Constitution”, Nishani declared.
Yesterday, Gramoz Ruci from the SP and Petrit Vasili from the SMI asked the President to announce the vacancies at the Supreme Court based on the new law that was amended ni December.
But Nishani has not expressed his stance regarding this law. He wrote to the Parliamentary parties to hold consultations, as it has happened so far. As for the new law approved by the majority, a new consultative council will be established at the President, which will be led by the heads of the justice institutions.
