In an interview for the Voice of America, the President of Kosovo,
Hashim Thaci, said it is a good thing that the Kosovo matters were not
tied to only one political party in Washington, but it has been an
official policy of the USA, receiving support from both Republican and
Democratic parties.
Thaci also commented on Haradinaj’s arrest, considering an arbitrary decision.
The President of Kosovo is attending an official visit to the USA, with the purpose to thank the Obama administration, specifically vice President Joe Biden, for their powerful support to the Republic of Kosovo and to further stability in the region.
Thaci says he is proud to start this year with a visit to America, through which he updated the US officials with the progress achieved in Kosovo so far, and also to meet and discuss the next steps that will be taken with the new administration of President Trump.
When asked if he expects any changes with the power rotation in Washington, Thaci said Kosovo is lucky to be tied with both political camps in the USA.
As regards Haradinaj’s arrest, the Kosovo President said it was an effort of old Serbian politics to create obstacles to Kosovo’s independence, after losing the war.
“They are trying everything possible to criminalize the Kosovo political leaders. This tendency will also go down, and this is shown by the release of Haradinaj, although it is not enough. He should be released without any condition, turn back home and work with his political agenda”, Thaci said.
Hashim Thaci asked the EU to be more direct in their relations with Serbia, so that these things do not happen again in the future.
