President supports opening of communist Secret Service files and Lustration

The President’s suggestion comes in a time when the government has undertaken the initiative for drafting a law for this process. But it doesn’t include Lustration. However, the government believes that the transparency will serve as moral Lustration. The reason for this, according to the government, is that the Constitutional Court rejected the law of 2008 with the Lustration article. The same stance has been held by the Commission of Venice.

The President had prepared a series of activities for the 25th anniversary of the fall f communism.

“I invite the government, the Prime Minister, the Parliament and the opposition, to join these activities and coordinate their work for the events that will focus on the horrible consequences of the communist crime in Albania”, President Nishani declared.

Together with the law for the files, the President suggested the drafting of a special law for commemorating the communist crimes and for setting a date for it.

He suggested October 27th, when several intellectuals were executed for the so-called “Bomb at the Soviet Embassy”, and also with the sentencing of poet Havzi Nela.

The President also suggested the Municipality to build a monument for the December Movement.
