The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, sent a message to all heads of
states in the European Union, lobbying for Albania’s candidate status
based on its achievements and merits.
In this message, the President underlines: “Having the greatest honor for you and your country, and for the generous support given to Albania’s European integration, I have the pleasure to inform you that my people awaits with emotion and trust the decision of the European Council to give Albania the candidate status this month. The European aspiration has always been the most unifying aspiration for the Albanian people, many times struck by the bad destiny of harsh occupations and dictatorships, but that survived and started a new story 24 years ago, the story of democracy and integration in the European family, which they are pushing forward with determination”.
Albania has been waiting for the candidate status for years now, and the positive recommendations from the European Commission are the confirmation that my country fully deserves the further advance in the European family. We have been pleased to notice in the report of the recommendation that Albania has fulfilled the required conditions and deserves further recognition from the EU”, the President adds.
“This is the reason why the Albanian people and I, as President of the Republic, are optimistic and confident that Albania deserves the status. The June 23rd decision regarding this matter will be a clear message not only to continue with a new spirit and energy the new and progressed reforms, but also for the people of my country, and the youth, which makes the majority of the population, and who make the European future of Albania”.
