President: Politics must condemn communist crimes, not protect them

President Bujar Nishani answered to those who criticized him for
decorating 67 members of the National Front who were executed in 1943 by
communists.

“26 years after the German model, Albania has not detached itself completely from the communist past. The Secret Service cases have not been opened yet and the lustration law has not been taken in consideration. The symbols of dictatorship and of the communist regime are returning once again, often masked with artistic elements. The Albanian political class has the duty to punish the communist crimes and respect the results of the Council of Europe in 1996 and 2006. Voices coming from politicians and who are nostalgic about communism, who defend the crimes committed by communism, should serve as an alarm bell for the entire society”, Nishani declared during a visit for the German October.
