The Speech of the Albanian President Bujar Nishani at the UN Assembly
focused on Kosovo and its recognition, by also giving a strong message
to Serbia.
Nishani referred to Serbian leaders position that denies to recognize and accept the International Court of Justice decision on Kosovo’s independence.
“The different ethnicities in Balkan have experience some of the worst wars in the name of misused nationalism. The chauvinist minds legalized their ideology of superiority above the other countries by legalizing the genocides and massacres that followed. The two last decades show that it is not an easy task to turn this page of the Balkan history”, Nishani declared.
“The men who caused the tragedies and genocides certainly were unable to do this alone (turn the page). They needed the approval of the people, but most of all, they need the approval of the victims who seek justice. It is noted with great concern that in Balkan, rather than sincerely apologizing for the massacres, you hear only denials with declarations coming even from the highest political ranks”, the President declared.
The President also mentioned the fact that the Albanian state, besides being a strong supporter of the human rights and the people’s fight for freedom, from Syria to Myanmar, has a clear position with justice.
“Albania remains a dedicated partner to the promotion of justice, for everyone keeping their responsibilities and the determination against impunity for every committed crime. In this direction Albania is supporting the international jurisdiction principle, because we believe that it is a mechanism for ending the impunity and for promoting responsibility”, Nishani declared.
