From Malësia e Madhe, where he participated in a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Koplik War, President Ilir Meta responded to the media interest regarding the latest political developments.
He reiterated his appeal to the government to reflect on and implement the June 5 election agreement.
Meta warned that neither the President nor the Albanians can accept humiliation from a ‘sect’ like ‘Rilindja’ as the socialists call themselves.
The president again leveled accusations against the prime minister, saying he was trying to divert the country from EU integration and is undermining elections.
“Why are they against June 5 agreement?” Why are they in favor of blocking the opening of negotiations? Has the SP program changed anything? Why question Kosovo’s sovereignty? It is clear that the trial against Haradinaj would expose their attempts to divide Kosovo, so they withdrew. They forgot those socialists who had a historical role. The government has been overthrown for a long time, but they either do not see it or you do not want to believe it.”
Asked if he would sit down for a public debate, the president said:
“I am waiting for it, from today, from now. The government has overthrown itself and has zero legitimacy as long as it destroys the electoral process and puts the pickaxe on the June 5 agreement, believing that it will win through pressure, vote buying and intimidation.”
