President Meta rejects government’s request to fire Tirana University Rector

The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, refused to fire the Rector of the Tirana University, Mynyr Koni.

The President argues that his decision would heavily damage the autonomy of higher education institutions.

Last month, the Minister of Education, Besa Shahini, announced that she had suspended Retor Mynyr Koni, and asked the Persident to fire him with the motivation that he had turned into an obstacle for implementing the higher education law.
