President Ilir Meta recalled today the execution of a group of dissident MPs by the communist authorities on October 10, 1947, saying that this event has entered the history of Albania as one of the most serious acts of mass extermination of the political opposition, and which officially installed the “institution” of physical elimination and the the terror purges of dissents.
Meta further said that 30 years after the fall of the dictatorial regime and 73 years after this event, Albanians like then havea monist Parliament, established in the function of power, which adopts laws and changes the Constitution only to stop the political opposition, punishing dissent and critical media.
In the accusations against the majority and the Prime Minister Edi Rama, Meta writes that unfortunately, the country is led by an autocratic regime that tends to take the form of a junta, where the incumbent Prime Minister proudly boasts from the rostrum of the one-party Assembly, about his father’s decision for the hanging of the poet Havzi Nela, at a time when the wind of democratic changes was blowing throughout Eastern Europe.
Ilir Meta’s post:
“The execution of the “Group of Deputies” and their collaborators on October 10, 1947, has entered the history of Albania, as one of the most serious acts of mass extermination of the political opposition, which officially installed the “institution” of physical elimination and cleansing og those who think otherwise.
“The brutal assassination through a rigged trial of prominent figures of the time, prominent and popular intellectuals, anti-fascists and pro-Western politicians, would open the door to the daily state crimes of the next 4 decades.
“30 years after the fall of the dictatorial regime and 73 years after this event, Albanians have, as then, a monist Parliament, established in the function of power, which adopts laws and changes the Constitution only to stop the political opposition, punish dissent and critical media”.
