Albanian president Ilir Meta has called unacceptable the constitutional changes on the electoral code adopted today in the Assembly.
The official reaction of the presidency states that the unilateral changes of the electoral code violate the agreements and trust between the parties.
The presidency further stated:
“Today’s unilateral and needless change of the Constitution by the semi-legitimate Parliament, is an anti-constitutional and unacceptable act!
“Violent change of the Constitution has killed the consensual agreements of 14 January and 5 June, which enabled an inclusive process and outcome, blowing therefore the established trust between the parties, the social peace and the European integration process of Albania.
“The opportunistic and hypocritical rhetoric of some internationals go against the strategic aspiration and project of Albanians to build a European future.
“No hostage-taking gang will be able to escape a well-merited answer from the might of the united citizens against this coup d’état.
“The President of the Republic will as always be on duty protecting the Constitution, the unalienable rights and will of citizens to take their destiny in their hands.
“Edi Rama today dared the Albanian people to a historic challenge. He bragged for being the son of a communist who hung in Kukes square the poets of freedom of speech.
“We Albanians will answer back to the end!
