President Meta criticizes international representatives

The Albanian President, Ilir Meta, challenged the ruling majority which has started the procedure for removing him from his duty.

The President proposed that his fate in the presidency should be decided by the people’s vote.

“We could have presidential elections and general elections together with the local ones on October 13th. I will run for president. Rama and his MPs, who don’t want me, can bring their own candidates. This is what resolves this crisis. If there are any of those embassies that encourage turmoil in Albania, with any new idea, let us hear them. I will not accept any proposal that violates the principles of the state. Whoever wants to dip himself into the pool, he’s free to do so. It’s summer, after all. But he will pay the bill of deepening this crisis, because the Albanian people don’t deserve it”, Meta said.

Meta used a somewhat threatening tone against his former ally, Edi Rama, reminding him of Avni Rustemi (Albanian patriot who assassinated Essad Pasha Toptani, considered a traitor of the country)

“I and all the honest Albanains will defend our country from the billionaires who think that they can play with the structures of this country, for their deep state and state capture. Because Ilir Meta is not like Gruevski. Ilir Meta is President of Albania and will be there for the country. I belong to the kind of Avni Rustemi, Mic Sokoli, Vojo Kushi, etc. No one should put my stubbornness at trial, when it comes at defending the interests of my country. If he calls me Monika’s husband, I will call him Bilal’s wife. I am the President of Albania and my interest is not on Monika or on anything else. Monika has her own problems and she has fixed her children. She must thank Edi Rama for this, because thanks to Edi’s and Lulzim Basha’s signatures as Mayors, there is an apartment building there, at the New Ring Road, where Monika’s children are safe”, Meta said.

In these declarations, Meta mentioned the ambassadors as well:

“Democracy is not negotiable. I appeal the foreign representatives to not become ridiculous, because we are a NATO country, for the past 10 years. They shouldn’t play games with our Constitution. We must resolve our issues as men of state. Let’s stop playing embassies”, Meta said.

When asked by Top Channel if this stance is putting Albania against the USA, Meta said that his relations with the USA have always been crystal clear, and they will always be. “I haven’t intervened in any election in the USA. I haven’t funded any foundation there”, Meta said.

“I do have some words about honoured billionaire George Soros. I failed to listen carefully to [Hungarian Prime Minister] Viktor Orban in January 2000, when I was speaking with love about George Soros because truth be told, he helped us when we were in opposition, and [Orban] told me: ‘Be aware because he is not that democratic and often conspires against democracy.”
