President Ilir Meta has sent an official letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama asking for information on the issue of national marine waters and the recent expansion announced by Greece.
Among the requests listed by President Meta to Prime Minister Edi Rama on this issue, it is stated that: “I request information on the communication with the Greek Prime Minister or other officials. I request information on the official position of the Albanian government on the sea waters issue. We ask for information on the actions that the Albanian government will take “.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama has previously stated on the issue that the expansion of Greek waters has nothing to do with the territorial waters of Albania, nor with any agreement between Greece and Albania.
Greece, on the other hand, has stated that it has decided to exercise the right given to it by international law, namely Article 3 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea for the extension of its territorial waters from 6 to 12 miles to the Ionian Sea and its islands, up to Cape Tenaro in the Peloponnese.
