26 years ago, after a hunger strike led by students and professors of
the Tirana University, on February 20th, protesters brought down the
statue of former Dictator Enver Hoxha from the center of Tirana.

Today, on the 26th anniversary of this event, Albanian President Bujar Nishani decorated 723 participants of this hunger strike, awarding them the title “Nation’s Honor”. Among the guests invited to receive the award were MP Mesila Doda and Blendi Gonxhe.

The President said this was a historic moment for Albania, when students ended what had remained from the communist regime.

For Nishani, their mission must still continue. “Your historic mission is not over yet. I invite each of you to never stop trying, to never avoid the social and historic responsibilities, but keep contributing with decency”, Nishani declared.
