The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj held a reception with the representatives of the Diplomatic Body in Albania this evening.
In his speech, the Head of State focused on the achievements of the past year and on Albania’s regional and global challenges for 2024.
He called for cooperation and dialogue for peace, security and hope for a better future, calling diplomacy not an option, but a necessity.
Begaj confirmed the position that Albania will continue to have a foreign and security policy aligned with the European Union and the USA, as well as engage in strengthening multilateralism and regional cooperation.
The head of state emphasized the importance of the support of the Western Balkans by the European Union through the creation of mechanisms that enable not only political alignment, but also economic progress and facilitating the daily life of citizens.
“For Albanians in the region, membership in the EU is a matter of national interest”, declared Begaj, adding that the Albanian factor has contributed and will continue to contribute to peace and security in the region.
On Kosovo, Begaj called for recognition from those states that have not undertaken this move and welcomed the liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo as he reiterated the position for its Euro-Atlantic integration.
“The resolution of the Kosovo-Serbia disputes is not only a political issue, but it is a security issue for the region and Europe”, declared Begaj.
The President emphasized the commitment to the justice reform in Albania, the fight against corruption, increased transparency and accountability from public institutions, as well as efforts for social justice.
