Presheva Albanians protest

Albanians from the Presheva Valley have raised the red and black flag in
protest against the discrimination of the Albanians in southern Serbia.

In the last two protests, November 28th has been celebrated symbolically and calmly. The citizens held slogans such as “I love my flag” and “Serbia, Balkan’s shame”.

The politicians have not held speeches and have marched together, despite their political differences. Journalist Ardita Behluli read a joint declaration:

“This state, by not allowing us to use the national symbol, tries to stop us from expressing our national identity. The flag is the symbol that shows that we are the Albanian nation in Balkan. We want this practice to stop”, Behluli declared.

The Albanians of the Presheva Valley cannot use their national symbols, because the Constitution of Serbia prohibits the use of the symbols of another state. The Albanians are allowed to chose their own symbol, but they are against such an action.
