The EU summit held in Poznan, Poland, confirmed once again the financial support of the EU to the Western Balkans.
The meeting approved 180 million EUR in the region, but this money weren’t share equally to everyone. Bosnia Herzegovina and Macedonia are the ones that benefit the most.
There will be 94.7 million Euros in grants for Bosnia for three major projects during 2019, such as Corridor 5, the Poprikuse Memila and Rudanka Putnikovo highways.
Northern Macedonia will receive 42 million EUR for the Skopje-Bllaca highway, a railway with Serbia and a gas pipeline with Greece.
Kosovo and Serbia received respectively 26.8 and 12.8 million Euros. In Kosovo, Brussels will fund the national railway; in Serbia, the 400 kw line Obrenovac-Bajina Basta.
Albania was the only one that didn’t receive any money from the EU grants. This time, the reason was the lack of projects.
Since 2015, when the Berlin Process was initiated, the EU funded 880 million EUR of grants for six Western Balkan countries. Albania has received the least from it, a total of 78.2 million Euros.
