“Poverty Shelter” commemorated

Pieces of several lives, in different times and places, but with one single source: “The Poverty Shelter”.

Hundreds and thousands of abandoned children were raised in these institutions by nurses who have replaced their parents.

Many of them are today important figures in politics, art and culture. But one they were children who had to grow up without parents.

The Director of the National Institution for Integration of Orphans has made an appeal to the government and politicians to respect and implement all laws for orphans.

This message was given on the national day of helping orphans, after the presentation of the documentary “Home of Love”, prepared by journalist Beti Njuma, on the 95th anniversary of the foundation of the first orphanage.

Our country has 31.000 orphans, and most of them are under 16, facing a series of social problems.
