The leader of the opposition, Sali Berisha, today asked the deputies in the parliament to reject the agreement for the Durrës Port concession, saying that is against the law and to the detriment of the people of Durrës and all Albanians.
“With the agreement you voted for in 2020 with the United Emirates, contrary to the constitution, you created all the favors for PM Edi Rama’s group in this unprecedented looting in the history of a country. Today you want to bury the centuries-old port of Durrës and turn it into a private property of the Rama clan and some occasional Arab.”
After Prime Minister Edi Rama, the opposition accused Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who led the inter-ministerial working group in negotiating the contract with the Emaar company from Dubai, of corruption with the Durres port concession.
To the opposition’s accusations that Belinda Ballku is part of the alienation of national public assets, the deputy prime minister said that the contract is public and has no hidden clauses.
“This is the best contract that the Albanian state has made so far, not excluding our time or yours. This is a contract worked on for 12 months in an open negotiation,” said Balluku.
With the language of numbers, the first PD deputy Enkelejd Alibeaj showed Belinda Balluku the economic damages of this contract negotiated by her. “We are giving away 400 million euros of land, 160 million because of taxes, 60 million because we don’t take the construction that goes to social housing, plus another 390 million and in return what anything happens, we will receive 280 million euros,” said Enkelejd Alibeaj.
“Both my colleagues and I know the contract very well, we have worked with it and we know where we are signing, so don’t worry about it. You look at the plight of the citizens and cry because you are obstructing as much as you can, because if nothing else, you are obstructing one of the most important projects in the Republic of Albania,” replied Balluku.
The debate with Balluku was then followed by the opposition MP Edmond Spaho.
“A relative of yours has a very tragic story behind him because he blindly followed Enver Hoxha’s orders to kill and oppress people. So don’t blindly follow Edi Rama’s orders, you and the Ministry of Finance,” said Spaho, referring to Balluku’s grandfather who was a minister during the era of communist dictator Enver Hoxha.
