The Albanian President Bamir Topi decreed the law for Population and
Residence Registration, which has been strongly opposed by the Red and
Black Alliance.

Right after the decision, the Alliance expressed its regret for the decree, announcing that there would be a suit at the Constitutional Court for Parliament Protocol infringements, since Democratic Party MPs voted on behalf of their absent colleagues.

“The battle will continue in Court”, declared RBA representatives.

RBA appeals citizens to refuse population registration

Intellectuals, lawyers and historians have turned their attention to the infringement of international convents and of the Albanian Constitution with the population registration on ethnic and religious bases.

Historian Pellumb Xhufi declared that this registration was asked by the Greek Prime Minister several years ago.

Kreshnik Spahiu published a form that our Greek neighbors used for their own population registration, which shows that Greece itself has not included ethnic and religious bases in it. RBA reminds that the Parliament passed this law without having all MPs present in the voting process.

“The country and the policy that has asked this registration to our government is a country that doesn’t implement it itself. How can this process be transparent, when the MPs vote with both hands”, Spahiu declared.

RBA representatives appealed the citizens to refuse the registration, warning that there will be protests against this decision.
