Population could further decrease

The Albanian population could diminish further in the next decade, due
to the combination of the lack of jobs for young people and the easy
emigration possibilities to developed countries.

According to the Institute of Statistics, the number of Albanians who will enter the job market is much higher than those who will leave this market, and this situation could continue for more than one decade.

Since Albania has no sufficient jobs for fulfilling the demand, the emigration is very likely to continue, leaving behind a smaller and older population.

According to Instat, in 2009 Albania had 301.000 people from 15-19 years of age. In the next four years, these people will be in their twenties, and will be looking for a job with an average pace of 75.000 job seekers per year.

While the Albanians from 60-64 years of age in the next four years are 113.000, and this means that in average, 28.000 people will leave the job market each year.

The difference is almost 47.000 each year, and they have few chances to find a job in the Albanian economy, especially for the fact that economy in this period is expected to fall. The chances for them to emigrate and leave behind older people unable to work are very high.
