Pollution increase tumors

The high pollution level of the areas where we live and tobacco smoking
are considered as the main causes for the high number of tumors. The
diagnoses with modern equipments have discovered 400 new cases of
nervous system tumors, ranking these diseases second for the number of
deaths, after the cardio-vascular ones.

The head of the Neurosurgery Department, Mentor Petrela, asked the citizens to take more care of themselves and visit their doctor at least once a year, especially for those over the 40s.

“Environment pollution has been proved as one of the main causes, including all pollution particles, from burned plastics, hydrocarbon and tobacco smoking. We, as a society, must reflect and take measures starting with the education of our children”, Petrela declared.

In the seminar with neurologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons and oncologists was underlined the quick diagnosticating of tumors in the nervous systems with the goal for lowering the number of deaths and for increasing the patients’ quality of life, thanks to the technology that has arrived in these departments.

“The signs through which the tumors are manifested are different, but the most frequent are headaches. If 90% of the people suffer headaches, only 10% of them derive from tumors”.

Other frequent signs are the character changes, epileptic seizures, numbness, fatigue, balance disorder and blurry vision. These are the most specific neurological signs”, declared Mira Rakacolli, President of the Neurologists Association.

The Health Minister, Petrit Vasili, valued the achievements of our doctors with their interventions in the neurosurgery department.

In this seminar for the neuro-oncology was also present the British Ambassador, Fiona McIlwham.
