There are hundreds of thousands of used tires that burn in quarries or
are thrown in rivers and roads, causing a high environmental pollution
and damaging the citizens’ health.
Although all European Union countries have been recycling used tires since 2006, Albania remains far from this standard. Environmentalists have asked that tires should be used for paving roads or for electricity.
“Albania should start managing the tires, rather than throwing them around. A tire needs 1000 years to dissolve. It should turn into raw material and used for energy in factories or for other uses. We have 1.4 million tires that are produced each year, and which could be a good product for raw materials”, declared Sazan Guri, environmentalist.
10 other products could derive from the recycling of car tires, which could be used for paving roads, shoe soles or for producing energy. Environmental pollution due to a bad management of urban wastes is still continuing in alarming levels.
