The police operation against smugglers in Northern Kosovo has taken dramatic proportions. One officer was wounded by a bullet behind his back, three others have lighter injuries.

The parallel structures in these areas have immediately activated the alarm and Serbs have gathered to oppose the police with barricades.

30 people have been arrested so far from three nationalities: Albanian, Serbian and Bosnian. Regardless this fact, the residents in the Serbian communes are claiming that they have been targeted based on their ethnicity, claims that are being supported by the press in Belgrade.

The Kosovo Police clarified that the suspects were arrested for  being part of organized crime, smuggling goods, power abuse, bribe, illegal trade, etc.

The Kosovo Police appealed citizens to not be deceived by provocations, while the police operation is going on despite the armed resistance in Northern Mitrovica.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, clarified on Facebook that the persons arrested are customs police officers, officials and common citizens.

“This is only the law in action and nothing else. I appeal Serbs in Northern Kosovo to keep calm and respect the law”, Haradinaj said.

The President of Serbia, Alexandar Vucic, has ordered the army and the police to be on standby. He said that if the international community will not stop what is taking place in Kosovo, Belgrade will respond.
