In the meeting held today in Shkodër between Prime Minister Edi Rama, ministers and mayors of the country, one of the main issues was that of applications from municipalities for EU funds.

Top Channel’s Muhamed Veliu reports that the prime minister has requested cooperation between the municipalities and the Ministry of Local Government headed by Arbian Mazniku.

He said that the support from the central government will be unsparing, but it will depend on the performance of the municipalities.

“Whoever performs better will have support from the Ministry of Finance when distributing the unconditional grants. So there will be a difference for those municipalities that have better performance, compared to those that have problems or are in debt to third parties,” Prime Minister Edi Rama was quoted as saying.

As a second issue, Prime Minister Edi Rama has focused on human resources, engaging in the review of salaries and their alignment with those working in the central government, as there reportedly is a large disparity.

14 municipalities are 85% dependent on government grants and transfers, while 10 municipalities (with over 100 thousand inhabitants are 55% dependent), Minister Mazniku said during the meeting.
