The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, answered to the declaration of the Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta.
Rama valued Meta’s effort to please the Democratic Party, and said he is ready to work for any solution that would make it easier for the opposition to return in Parliament and vote the Vetting Law, in order to guarantee that the June 18th elections will be the fairest and most honest ever held in Albania.
Rama reminded Ilir Meta the reforms needed to build the rule of law, and why they were voted four years ago.
“We will not go back and we will continue the path decided by our people’s mandate. A minority is afraid of the Vetting Law and the people’s electoral vote”, Rama said on Facebook.
The Prime Minister said he is ready to sit and discuss with the Democratic Party, even in the tent, since dialogue has always been his first option.
The SMI leader Ilir Meta also spoke about dialogue, mentioning the need for a trusted government.
Rama said he is open for any solution that doesn’t violate the Constitution and the democratic standards.
“Our Constitution is very clear. The elections should be held on June 18th. The government is the will expressed by the people. I am convinced that we can agree for anything else”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister’s reference to the Constitution means that he refuses to postpone the elections or allow a technical government.
