PM Rama: “Respect for protesters. Organizers have another purpose”

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, commented the opposition’s
protest by saying that the DP has been trying for a long time to find an
alibi for losing the next elections.

“They demand things that are not up to us. There has been no obstacle from us. We even asked them to address concerns about elections to the Electoral Reform commission. If they have support from the OSCE-ODIHR for their requests, we will support it too”, Rama said.

The Prime Minister said that the majority will continue preparations for the electoral campaign. He appealed Parliament Members to be careful when addressing to the protesters.

“Don’t fall to Sali Berisha’s level who tried to denigrate our protests. The people who are protesting must have our respect. The organizers are different, because they have other purposes. They are simply afraid of the Vetting Law and the Judiciary Reform”, Rama said.

He appealed the opposition to come to Parliament, vote the Vetting Law and then go back to protest.

“This is the only way to show that the purpose of this protest is not to block the Vetting Law. If the opposition boycotts the Parliament by blocking the vetting law, then the purpose of this protest is very clear: fear from the Vetting Law”, Rama said.

“From the political point of view, this is a gift to us. But for our country’s interest, this is a serious hit that aims to save corrupted judges and prosecutors from the vetting law”, he added.
