Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke today alongside mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, regarding the recent arrests of many former municipal officials, saying that “the fight against corruption within state structures must be supported by all”.
Defending the work of the SPAK special anti-corruption prosecution, Rama said that the developments are “an exemplary expression of the red line between us, of the party that governs and leads the Reform in Justice”
“In addition, we have nothing to do with the slanders of politicians and the denigrations of media murderers, which have become part of our public life, turned into a jungle where the first does not understand the second”.
“We do not intend to change the strongly supportive approach to SPAK, nor do we comment on anything related to the veracity of SPAK’s accusations, or anyone that SPAK prosecution takes as a defendant”, says Rama.
“Albania will move forward, with the government of the Socialist Party with the New Justice without leaving out anyone who uses party flags, left or right, up or down, to to derive illegal benefits for himself or his relatives”, he adds.
Raama said that the prosecution will hit anyone in the ranks of the executive, “at any level of government, who has violated the law and betrayed our mission” though the latest dozen arrests have involved only former Tirana municipality officials.
