On the second day of his visit to Brussels, Albanian PM Edi Rama met the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, who through a message on Twitter said that the meeting was very good.
“We talked about Albania’s progress towards EU accession and about the new growth plan with the Western Balkans. This will bring the region closer to the EU, increasing well-being with our partners,” says the president of the European Commission.
The meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, focused on the tense situation in the north of Kosovo and the need for a quick solution.
“We talked about the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue process. I thank Mr. Prime Minister for his efforts and commitment in finding a solution, I have made clear the position that the parties must find a way to avoid the escalation of the situation and the approval of the roadmap that has been put on the table. This situation requires us to take measures quickly and urgently, as the member countries agree with this urgency. They have lost their patience in front of this situation, which is getting worse and now requires intervention”, said Borrell about the meeting.
Prime Minister Rama said that the meeting focused also on the stability of the region.
“We shared our opinions about something that is disturbing and for which you are personally working hard. This concerns the entire stability of the region as we are part of an area that has suffered in the past and we do not need to return there. We cannot only look at the threshold of our house without taking into account what is happening with the neighboring countries and the effects it may have not only for Serbia and Kosovo but for the entire region. Leaders should not leave the conference without a common agreement,” he added.
