The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and the leader of the New
Democratic Spirit, Bamir Topi, have started their cooperation for the
local elections of June 21st.
Although no concrete agreement has been reached after the 50 minute meeting, the communication channels remain open.
Top Channel: Mr.Rama, did you reach an agreement with the NDS?
Rama: No, but we had a preliinary and constructive meeting to see if there is space for a cooperation bridge, although we know that this is a specific case, a party with a clear position on the right and with the opposition. However, we believe that there is space for the local elections. This was an open and direct conversation, but we could identify our common points and concerns related to the necessity to build a constructive politics. Everything remains to be seen in the days to come”.
The NDS leader emphasized the need for a wide coalition, underlining that the NDS stays loyal to its principles.
“We discussed the main matters related to our principle, to the electoral system, common points that might turn into cooperation. We will continue to negotiate about the local elections. Both parties are prone to discuss matters related to our principles, rather than our interests. We are a serious party, not one of close interests. We want to have principles prevail in politics. We want wide coalitions based on principles, and we will still be political opponents as regards the central government. But with the local elections, which are administrative, there is no reason to not create wider and civilian coalitions”, Topi declared.
Topi said that he will keep meeting with Rama in the days to come.
