After meeting with the President of the European Commission, Juncker, and the President of the European Union, Tusk, Prime Minister Rama answered in a press conference to a series of questions regarding the integration of Albania and the internal conflict with President Nishani, and the influence it might have in Brussels.
TCH: Mr.Prime Minister, in 2014, when tou started your mandate, you promised that Albania could become an EU member within 10 years. Keeping in mind the geo-political situation for Europe, more than for Albania, do you think that your project can be realized?
Edi Rama: I believe that Albania can and will do everything to be an European country, one country of Eu standards. Then it will depend on the developments in the EU, the dynamics that today are not predictable. We will see of the accession of Albania will be for 10 years, for more or for less. In this aspect, everything might happen. The important thing is that we are not only on the right track, but we are on an evaluated and encouraged track. After these meetings, we return to Tirana with positive energy taken by these meetings fro everything that we have been able to do in the interior and exterior plan. We received high evaluations during these meetings for the reforms and steps undertaken by the government for the modernization of our country.
TCH: Do you think that the clash between the government and the President for appointing some ambassadors might put in danger the relations with Brussels, as regards the recommendation of this October, which might be possible or not?
Edi Rama: I think that it will affect not only the relations with Brussels, but also the interior and stable development of Albania. The fight without compromise against crime will continue against all types of crime. This power was sitting on the government’s lap until yesterday. Today it is being confronted by the government and it being backed off each day, as shown by the numbers. We are receiving each day more support on this aspect. Fortunately, Brussels is working with the numbers and figures. They are making a clear comparison with what used to be and what it is now.
TCH: Mr.Rama, since you spoke about figures. Do you have any commitment as regards funds? Any more concrete commitment than the Conference of Berlin as regards the funds for the region?
Edi Rama: Certainly, we are working and we need to work harder. It will depend on the work that we are doing and the products of this work, which we will make present in the months to come for our EU partners.
