Socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today the dismissal of Bledi Çuçi from the position of Minister of the Interior, three days after the barbaric beating incident in Borizana, Kruja, which shocked the public opinion.
Through a message on Twitter, thanking Çuçi “for the correct work”, Rama reveals that he will propose Taulant Balla for appointment as Minister of the Interior.
“On Monday, I will officially submit to the President of the Republic the proposals for the new Minister of Internal Affairs, Taulant Balla, to further our steadfast state-building effort,” said Rama.
Balla, who holds the position of head of the SP Parliamentary Group in power since 2017, has been talked about earlier for taking such a position, in moments when the country has been shaken by security and public order problems.
The degradation of the situation with the violence exerted by the relatives of the socialist deputy on the residents of Borizan due to the conflict over the quarry, and the lack of an immediate response by the police, seem to have sealed to the dismissal of Çuçi.
The Prime Minister’s decision also comes after the resignation of MP Rrahman Rraja and the discovery of the scandal at the Kruja Police Station, where the concealment, manipulation of facts and the failure to properly handle the Borizana incident led to the dismissal of many police officers.
Earlier, information circulated in the media that the police in Kruja had connections with the violent quarry mnagers and 40 complaints made by local citizens were not taken into consideration.
Although citizens were injured by the violence and the clashes with the family members of former MP Rraja who owned the quarry, the police let the perpetrators go free with the excuse that the quarry is licensed.
The complaining residents of Borizana were also threatened with arrest and imprisonment by the chief of the Kruja police station, in case they protested to block the activity of the quarry, owned by family of the socialist MP.
