During the interview with journalist Steve Clemons at the International Forum in Prague, Albanian PM, Edi Rama answered some important questions for the country and the region.

Clemons addressed Albania’s chief executive with the question of whether Russia has made any attempt to undermine the Albanian government. Rama said that with Russia “we have no trouble” and no conflict, since they cannot find spies inside the Albanian territory.

But he stated that Russia could become a problem for the rest of the Balkans, and that this is the reason why the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia should end, and that it is important to keep the latter “on our side”.

“Because of our history, we used to be the ‘North Korea’ of Europe, And when the Russians decided to get rid of Stalin, Albania remained stoic to him, . Remaining Stalinist until ’90, this made our country less interesting for Russia. Until today, there has been no visit from Moscow and no one has missed them. We either don’t want anything bad for Russia…”

“We had a few things in the mix, but nothing major. Elsewhere Russia can be a real problem in other parts of the Balkans, so we need Serbia and Kosovo to get out of the conflict, and we need to keep Serbia on our side as much as possible”, said Rama, among other things.

Rama also spoke about cyber attacks, calling them a “literal war” and therefore it is necessary to treat them seriously.
