Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in the joint press conference in Skopie with the Secretary General of NATO and the leaders of North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia, has requested two guarantees from the North Atlantic Alliance; the borders between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as co-financing for the construction of the new NATO naval base in Porto Romano in Albania.

Rama offered NATO to have access to this part of Europe, stressing that Albania’s request for the construction of a new naval base should be implemented as soon as possible.

“I would also like to emphasize the request that Albania’s application to co-finance with NATO the new NATO naval base in Porto Romano, be processed as soon as possible because such an investment is not just for Albania but for our entire region, and for NATO itself, which will gain quick access to this side of Europe”.

Rama once again reiterated the need for an increase in NATO forces in Kosovo, stressing that the incident in Banjska highlighted the high risk of destabilization and escalation of the conflict.

According to him the September 24 attack in the north of Kosovo should not be considered a sporadic case, but a warning.

“I am sorry for the fact that despite the repeated calls to increase not only the attention, but also the troops, which should guarantee the absolute stability and inviolability of Kosovo, a tragic event has occurred, which should be considered a warning and not a sporadic event, and which must by all means not be repeated”.

“NATO should be more present in Kosovo and engaged with more troops to secure the border between Serbia and Kosovo, which is a source of many troubles from which individuals, groups and forces that aim to destabilize Kosovo.”

The Albanian Prime Ministeralso  called on the Alliance to help Kosovo accelerate its integration into it.
